June 13, 2024 - Orientation on Gender and Development (GAD) and Disaster Risk Reduction -Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) Programs
COM and its partner people's organizations under the ULAP (Ugnayang Lakas ng mga Asosasyon at Pederasyon na Kumikilos sa Usapin ng mga Maralita sa NCR at Rizal) held an orientation regarding Gender and Development (GAD) and Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) programs of the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG). Resource persons were DILG Asst. Secretary Beth N. Lopez-De Leon, DILG Division Chief for Local Administrative Development Gemma R. Macatangay and LGOO IV Bureau of Local Government Development Anna Victoria C. Quilbot.
The following are the objectives of the orientation:
1. To deepen the knowledge of the members of the organizations on the following matters:
a. Relevant laws and policies that guide GAD and DRR-CCA
b. DILG programs and projects that communities can access
2. Reconnect partnership between ULAP and DILG
3. Gender and youth mainstreaming on DRR-CCA and maximize DRR-CCA & GAD programs at the local level
4. Echoing of GAD and DRR-CCA learnings at the grassroots level
The leaders conveyed the situation and experiences in their respective communities and sought solutions confronting the communities.
During the workshop, the participants devised plans and recommendations relevant to their communities’ specific women empowerment and protection needs, economic upliftment, and gender mainstreaming. On DRR-CCA, participants’ plans and recommendations highlighted DRR mitigation and adaptation such as communities’ role in environmental protection, hazard mapping, swift and timely response to disasters, DRR-CCA skills and capability training, and clean and affordable energy alternatives among others.
