Today, Oxfam Pilipinas and Community Organizers Multiversity - CO Multiversity (COM) distributed hygiene kits to the community in Phase 1B, Kasiglahan Village at Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal.
The community was one of hundreds severely affected by the massive flooding last week from the effects of Super Typhoon #CarinaPH and the enhanced #HabagatPH. As many as 505 individuals from 105 families had to evacuate last week to the village basketball court, with many having to wade through the flood just to reach the evacuation center.
Hygiene kits are an essential part of the post-flooding response as the community are still at risk to various waterborne diseases such as wound infections, skin rashes, leptospirosis, gastrointestinal illnesses and other diseases even after the flood has subsided. Oxfam and COM also conducted a hygiene promotion activity to inform the community of proper handwashing techniques and sanitation procedures.
